Small craft urged to stay in port as winds build across the Caicos Bank

Boaters, ferry passengers and fishers are asked to check conditions before leaving harbour while the marine advisory remains in place.

Mariners across the Turks and Caicos are being asked to keep small vessels in port while easterly winds strengthen over the Caicos Bank and the channels between the islands.

What the advisory means

A small craft advisory is issued when sustained winds and sea heights make open-water passages unsafe for smaller boats. Conditions in sheltered harbours can look calm while the banks and passages are rough.

  • Check the latest marine forecast before any departure.
  • Secure lines and fenders on boats left at moorings.
  • Confirm ferry and charter schedules directly with the operator.

Ferry and charter services

Scheduled passenger services may run on revised timetables while the advisory is active. Travellers with connecting flights are encouraged to allow extra time between islands.

Magnetic Media will update this report as the advisory changes.
